On the Challenge of Plasma Heating with the JET Metallic Wall

چکیده
In this paper, the major aspects linked to the use of the JET heating systems: NBI, ICRF and LHCD, in the new JET ITER-like wall (ILW) are presented. We show that although there were issues related to the operation of each system, efficient and safe plasma heating was obtained with room for higher power. For the NBI up to 25.7MW was safely injected; issues that had to be tackled were mainly the beam shine through and beam re-ionisation before entrance in the plasma. For the ICRF system, 5MW were coupled in L-mode and 4MW in H-mode; the main areas of concern were RF-sheaths related heat loads and impurities production. For the LH, 2.5 MW were delivered without problems; arcing and generation of fast electron beams in front of the launcher that can lead to high heat loads were the keys issues. For each system, an overview will be given of: their compatibility with the new metallic wall, the main modifications implemented for a safe use, the differences in behavior compared with the previous wall in carbon, with special emphasis on heat loads and impurity content in the plasma.

In this work, we first produced microwave plasma ball, then changed the ball into a microwave plasma jet by flowing a working gas through a nozzle. The effect of working gas on the thermal characteristics of the plasma ball and atmospheric pressure microwave plasma jet was investigated. We used resonant absorption scheme by a metallic antenna inside a chamber in which led to the ionization of s...

Hydrodynamic of a turbulent impinging jet on a flat plate has been studied experimentally and numerically. Experiments were conducted for the Reynolds number range of 72000 to 102000 and a fixed jet-to-plate dimensionless distance of H/d=3.5. Based on the experimental setup, a multi-phase numerical model was simulated to predict flow properties of impinging jets using two turbulent models. Mesh...
متن کاملBoiling induced macroscopic erosion of plasma facing components in fusion devices
During plasma instabilities in tokamak devices, metallic plasma facing components (PFC) can undergo surface melting and vaporization. Macroscopic losses of melt layers developed during these instabilities are of a serious concern to the lifetime of PFC, the damage of nearby components, and potential core plasma contamination. Due to the presence of impurities and dissolved gas, boiling occurs i...

In this study, a cold atmospheric He plasma jet is investigated. The jet is of dielectric barrier discharge type, consisting of a dielectric tube with two metal ring electrodes. The continuity, momentum and energy conservation equations as well as the Poisson equation for obtaining the potential and the electric field, accompanied with the ideal gas laws, are used for the simulation. The result...
